We are pleased to announce that IMUN will be running it's Second Security Council in its 13th conference!  Provided below are our Security Council guidelines and frequently asked questions; should you have any further inquiries, please direct them to imunportugal@hotmail.com.

Some FAQ:

What will be expected of Security Council delegates?
As the SC is a tight-knit, active group, the delegates selected to serve within this forum are expected to be 100% prepared for intense debate.  They must be very active and prepared to carry out their country's policies in accordance to real United Nations situations.  They should be well-acquainted with SC procedure and be prepared to debate resolutions clause by clause.  Debate will be intense, as follow-up questions are in order.  To enforce familiarity with all that is SC, IMUN will be running a Security Council Briefing on Thursday, November 8th following the Secretary-General's address.

How will IMUN assign Security Council nations?
Participating schools may request up to two (non P5) SC nations by the 28th of May. However, please note that the ultimate decision rests with IMUN administration.
To request to represent a P5 country, the individual students who are interested must fulfil the application process.

How many delegates should represent a Security Council member state?
As all Security Council members are present in the General Assembly, these should be represented by a minimum of two delegates (one in the GA, and other in the SC) or a maximum of three (two in the GA, and the third in the SC).

Can General Assembly delegates and Security Council delegates rotate between the two forums?
No.  Unless it is a case in which a non-SC member is called up to participate in a specific debate, GA delegates are not permitted within the Security Council at any time.

How will this be enforced?
As the SC is a small forum, the officers will be very well acquainted with each SC delegate. They will enforce this rule and notify appropriate authorities should this rule be breached.

Can Security Council delegates serve as a chair in the General Assembly?
No.  This will not be allowed as there is one delegate per SC member and that delegate must be present in the SC at all times.  Thus it is impossible to accommodate such requests.

What will the special responsibilities of the Permanent Members be?
As in the real SC, these five members (known as the P5, they are: China, Russia, France, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America).  P5 delegates should realize that their role as a veto-holding member comes with great responsibility and they shouldn't "play" at war!  Veto power is to be used sparingly and realistically, following the example of the real P5.  The P5 are also expected to be fully familiar with the resolutions to be debated and should inform the forum of  particular clauses that could possibly result in the veto being used.
