The aim of this assignment, which is a natural outgrowth of your in-depth country research project, is to further your understanding of the role of your IMUN country in the world.
Your interviewee preferably should be thoroughly acquainted with the domestic and foreign policy concerns of your assigned country. Usually the best source for such an individual is your country's embassy here in Lisbon. If your country is not represented in Lisbon, search hard for someone knowledgeable from your country or for someone knowledgeable who has lived in your country. If you are unable to find someone as such, try to locate an individual who is very well informed about your country. In certain exceptional cases, you may not be able to locate such an individual and are thus exempt form this assignment.
Securing an interview takes a certain tenacity, persistency, and creativity on your part. Make it happen. I, Mr. Andrews, will provide assistance if necessary.
You must have approximately twelve questions written out in advance of your interview. Each question should be carefully thought out. Be prepared to ask follow-up questions.
If your interview occurs at an embassy, you may need to make arrangements to miss classes.
Dress appropriately. Inquire whether or not you can tape record the interview. If not, be sure to take careful notes. Be sure to record the exact name and title of the individual, as well as location and date.
Show me your questions in advance of the interview. The interview is due prior to the IMUN Conference, November 9-11. The final outcome of the interview should be a typed, paraphrased summary of your exchange.
Example of useful questions:
1. What do you see as your most important foreign policy?
2. What do you see as your most important domestic policy?
3. What is the country's biggest internal problem?
